Do you (or someone you know) need a break from working from home? Here are three reasons why you might want to work from The Skiff one day a week or more.

The Engine Room at The Skiff

1. You want to get out of your house but don’t want to share a space with dozens of random people.

The Skiff is only open to members and pre-booked guests.

We limit access to 30 people per day. We limit member numbers so we rarely hit the limit. So far in January there has only been around 10 people in the space at a time.

We think it’s the safest and most comfortable place to work in-doors but away from your home.

2. You want to spend time in the real world with people like you working in businesses like yours.

The Skiff is focused on supporting individual freelancers, small business owners and remote employees.

All of us individually choose to work from The Skiff (no one is required to be here by their employer). Most of us (but not all of us) work in the software industry — around one third of us are software developers.

We don’t even have full-time employees of The Skiff — we’re all in the same boat.

3. You want to be part of something with a purpose beyond profit.

The Skiff’s sustained itself for over 13 years as a place to work in Brighton for people who don’t have or need a full-time office of their own.

It’s so important to members that over 100 of them paid membership fees through the lockdowns. Many continue to pay extra to help us keep going and to support other members. We’ve never distributed profits to owners and have no plans to sell. We became partially member owned in 2017. We plan to expand this, granting voting shares to more long-term members in 2022.

So far we’ve supported 10 people with free or reduced membership through our Inclusivity Membership Programme.

If this sounds like your kind of coworking space you can join the 7 new members we’ve already welcomed to be among our 25 new members for 2022: https://www.theskiff.org/join/
